Dell recommends it for my computer's health. But I ran into a problem which I believe I solved, and I want someone to tell me whether or not i did it right because the solution was unbelievably more simple compared to how I was actually told to install it.
The instructions in the Readme. I have only one hard drive so my computer does not support RAID. This is the driver I want to update. So I selected this driver after going through F6 and selecting to install a third party driver. I inserted the floppy and all went well until the system went to reboot.
Here I kept getting the message that the computer had to shut down because it encountered an error that may have caused all this damage to my computer. But the new driver never got installed. I kept getting this same message despite changing floppy disks and uninstalling the old driver. So I just went under Device Manager, pulled up the Controller Properties, and chose to update it from there.
I put the floppy in the drive, and pointed the Wizard to that location, and it changed it to the new driver. Windows 7 is as dead as XP. If your motherboard does not support raid on Windows 7, there is a reason.
Intel no longer supplies drivers for chipsets this old. You need to look for them out on that Interweb thingee. OMG he dares to install an old OS on an old machine, let's make some fun of him instead of trying to help, because this is what this forum is all about, right? The wayback machine is a web site that you can use to access archives of old web pages. BTW, the answer to his original question is that he needs to add the storage drivers during the Windows 7 install.
He needs ICH5R. For more complete information about compiler optimizations, see our Optimization Notice. Solid State Drives. I have tried three different floppies. The second one I created using a tool on the CD full of mainboard drivers and software that Shuttle provided. The third one I created using the IAA 4.
Does anyone know what disk I need here, and where can I get it? Thanks for any help, Songdog. LTC8K6 Lifer. Mar 10, 28, 1, Intel raid driver V4. I've tried that. That's the third of the three floppy disks I mentioned above. HAve you tried installing it in Windows? Download the regular version rather than the floppy deal? Yeah, I misread Intel's readme files. LEt's go back to the beginning. Are things going along like the description in Intel's readme as below?
When prompted, select 'S' to Specify Additional Device. When prompted, insert the floppy disk you created in step 2 and press Enter. Highlight the selection that is appropriate for the hardware in your system and press Enter. Press Enter again to continue. Leave the floppy disk in the system until the next reboot as the software will need to be copied from the floppy disk again when setup is copying files.
More or less through step 7, anyway. I hit F6 at the appropriate time. Also 'S'. I insert the disk I've tried three different ones, specified above. I hit Enter to continue. Then, as I have no other additional drivers to load I hit Enter again. Then I hit F8 to agree with the Windows license ageement can you tell I tried this quite a few times last night? Then I select my hard drive, choose to format it, hit 'F' to format it, and wait until that's done. All this time the floppy disk has remained in the drive.
I have the choice of hitting Enter once the disk is inserted in drive A:, or hitting F3 to cancel the installation. With the disk in the drive I hit Enter, but to no avail as a matter of fact, I'm reasonably sure it's not even seeking on the floppy, although it certainly did so when it loaded the AHCI driver earlier.
I cannot get past this point. Okay, have you tried hitting F3 to cancel the IAA installation? What happens then? I am certain you can install the IAA part from windows.
